IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (1/12/26) "Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana" Do you know what qualities and traits make a good teammate? Certainly not everyone is cut-out to be one. Some athletes choose individual sports where there is no one else to consider. My wife has always said that it is rare to find someone who is truly happy for someone else's success, often at the expense of their own. Maybe that is what it takes to be a good teammate. Bench players or subs know that it is part of their role to be supportive and cheer on the starters. My question to you-if you are a starter-can you serve that same role when you are not playing or you are not the star of the team? Your best teams are made of players who know their roles and are receptive to those roles. However, there is nothing more important than every single team member putting the team and its success before their own. It is much easier to be a good teammate when your season is going well, but it takes a special person (one who puts others before themselves) when things aren't going the way you want them!
