The Michigan City Wolves boys tennis team traveled to New Prairie High School on Saturday, finishing second place overall at the New Prairie Invitational. The boys battled through three rounds at each lineup position, with impressive performances across both singles and doubles. At No. 1 singles, Riley Emshwiller-Sowards played what was likely the match of the day in his opening round. Facing off against another top-flight player, Riley came up just short in a nail-biting 10-8 decision, but the match was filled with high-quality rallies and competitive shot-making that drew plenty of attention. He rebounded impressively, winning his final two matches by identical 6-2 scores and showing the consistency and toughness that anchors the Wolves’ top singles spot. At No. 2 singles, Jacob Hazel had an impressive day, earning a 10-5 win in his first match before falling 10-7 in round two. He closed the day in dominant fashion with a commanding 10-1 victory. At No. 3 singles, Carson Groszek started strong with a 10-5 win in his first round before dropping his final two matches 10-1 and 10-0. Despite the setbacks, Groszek’s early victory helped City stay competitive in the standings. The Wolves’ doubles teams anchored the lineup with outstanding play. At No. 1 doubles, Thomas Chatfield and Nic Williams were unstoppable, sweeping all three of their matches with scores of 10-4, 10-1, and 10-3. Their perfect day earned them 1st place in the No. 1 doubles flight, highlighting the duo’s continued chemistry and dominance on the court. At No. 2 doubles, Eli Green and Zach Williams also turned in a strong performance, winning their opening match 10-3 and closing with a 10-0 sweep in round three. Their only setback came in a tight 10-7 loss in round two. With several solid wins across the board and a flight championship from Chatfield and Williams, Michigan City secured second place overall in the team standings, marking another positive step in the Wolves’ season.
