The Varsity football team knocked off the Valpo Vikings in front of a packed house on Patriot Night in Valpo. The pre-game theatrics included a great fireworks show and a Black Hawk helicopter fly over while the two communities came together to honor the men and women who serve and protect our nation and communities. The game did not disappoint! A first half defensive slugfest saw both teams entering the locker rooms deadlocked at 7. Valpo scored first out of the locker room to take a 14-7 lead but 3 unanswered scores from the wolves combined with some big defensive plays allowed Michigan City to get their first win at Valpo since 2009. Zaire Mckinney had a statement game hauling in 7 catches for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns including a 57 yard dagger in the 4th quarter. Trinaston Hart completed 16 passes for 294 yards and 2 touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown to go with his 35 yards. Jeremy Thurman lead all rushers with 58 yards and DQ Fields added a rushing touchdown. Meek Laurent caught 6 passes for 88 yards and Dre Collier added 3 receptions for 40 yards including a huge sideline grab late in the game. The Michigan City defense competed all night and was lead by defensive tackle JuJu Heard with 8 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and a sack. Ethan Buskirk added 7 tackles and 2 tackles for loss and Zay Gipson tallied 10 tackles and 2 tackles for loss. Tony Fields had a huge 1 handed interception in the third quarter that completely shifted the momentum in the game. The Wolves move to 2-0 in DAC and are tied for first place with Crown Point. They will battle the Merrillville Pirates Friday at Ames field with a 7pm kickoff in what will be an important game for conference standings. Come out and support the Wolves!
