The Michigan City Wolves boys tennis team picked up another victory yesterday, defeating Highland 5-0 in varsity play. With the win, City improves to 10-5 overall, continuing their strong late-season push. At No. 1 singles, Riley Emshwiller-Sowards was dominant, posting a 6-0, 6-0 win. At No. 2 singles, Jacob Hazel battled through a tight contest, staying composed in the big moments to win 7-5, 7-5. Jaren Swindell provided another dramatic finish at No. 3 singles, pulling out a 6-2, 2-6, (11-9) tiebreak win to give City momentum. In doubles action, both Wolves’ pairings stepped up. At No. 1 doubles, Thomas Chatfield and Nic Williams remained steady, winning 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2 doubles, Eli Green and Zach Williams played a back-and-forth battle before coming out on top 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, completing the sweep. On the JV side, Highland grabbed two of the three matches. Carson Groszek and Trenton Vittatoe fought through momentum swings in an intense match that had plenty of long rallies and close games. The Wolves pair held strong to edge out an 8-6 victory, giving the JV team a well-earned bright spot. Though Finn Hendricks and the team of Aeden Phillips and Joey Stinchcomb came up short, all players gained valuable experience against a competitive Highland squad. City travels to Lake Central this afternoon for their last DAC match of the season.
