IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (11/3/25) "Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana" One thing I have seen increase over the past 20 years is that almost every fan in the stands has a strong opinion about the sport they are watching and are not afraid to express it! Heed this warning--anyone can and will give you advice. Make sure that those you are listening to give you sound advice that you should consider. How do you know if it is sound advice? When you are younger, most of the guidance comes from your parents, who had your best interest in mind. As you grow, your coaches and trainers will give you more objective, critical and specific advice. Friends, neighbors and other fans will weigh in, but I caution you to listen to them cautiously. At the high school level, your coaches should be the voice you listen to most often, challenging you in areas that result in your growth and development. In the end, pleasing your coach is the most important thing you must and should do! All content property of Billy Shepherd Sports
